Desiree in the Spotlight!

Desiree always has a smile on her face and has been with the MCEQ team for nearly a year. A well-liked and outgoing, adventurous member of the team, always willing to lend a hand in any aspect of the MC Equestrian operation.

What led you to start your job at MC Equestrian?

I have always been into riding and loved horses, so I decided to leave the hospitality industry and combine my passion with my career.

What does your typical day at MC Equestrian involve?

Des is our king of the yards and will often be found out on the tractor grading the arena or keeping the grounds looking nice. Desiree remarks that a typical day for her involves ‘ waking up at 5.30am to feed the horses, clean the stables, manage the medication, supervise the team and attend to anything around the stables and grounds. I then head over to ride and care for my own horses”.

Desiree is currently training to be a coach and has started teaching beginner children to ride.

Tell us about a funny horse moment?

I once took my horses home with me to mow our back lawn when the grass got too long to mow. We got a few funny looks from the neighbours peering over our fence!

Tell us about your favourite horse adventure?

One of my favourite adventures would have to be taking Dusty to the beach. We swam in the waves and galloped bareback along the sand. It was fantastic. We had a ball!

Tell us about your horses?

I am lucky enough to own two horses, Dusty and Monty. Monty I have owned for 18 months.. He is 6 years old and an OTTB (off-track thoroughbred). He is an Eventer and I love competing him. We are training for 95cm Cross Country at the moment. He is eager to please and even lines himself up at the mounting block for me!. He is a funny character and likes to pull faces for treats and rub his head on Dusty’s bum after riding!

Dusty is my other horse, he is 15 years old and an OTTB as well. I have had him for 8 years. He likes to squeal like a girl and always shows off in the paddock when others are watching. He does a bit of everything, trail riding, liberty etc.

Tell us about your favourite riding trails?

My favourite riding trail would have to be the long train in Duffy’s Forest. It has such amazing views of McCarrs Creek Reserve at the top. The water looks so blue from the top.

What do you like best about working at MC Equestrian?

“I love that I get to be out with nature and in the fresh air every day… on the sunny days!” She laughs. “I love being around the horses and this job definitely keeps me fit!”
