River’s Story

Meet River

Our gorgeous 11.2 hand Welsh pony. River is 12 years old and has been part of the MC Riding School since June 2021.

River was previously owned by Mel and Matt and their three daughters and lived on a farm north of Sydney. Mel described River as a cheeky, curious pony who was great with kids and loved food. He was trustworthy, friendly and very lovable, the perfect companion for her girls. River was one of three horses the family kept on their farm. Tiny was another from their farm who is also agisted at MC Equestrian stables with one of our riders.

Rivers Background?

River had originally come from a little girl with a working equitation background. She had won many competitions on River and he was a big pony club favourite. She outgrew him and that is how he came to be with Mel and Matt and their girls. Now that Mel’s girls are older, she wanted River to go to a good home and she knew River would be perfect for the riding school. He was trustworthy, great with small children and he was experienced at being out at shows and competitions.

As mentioned Mel had previously sold Tiny to the Marucio family who ride at the MCEQ stables, Mel had seen how well Tiny was treated and all the horses were cared for with vets, osteopaths, dentists and farriers coming on a regular basis to make sure all the horses were sound. With MCEQ’s excellent stables and multiple paddocks Mel and her family felt confident that River would be cared for and it was of great comfort to them that River would have experienced horse people looking after his needs.

Heartfelt Reunion

A year on, Mel has come back to MC Equestrian to visit River and Tiny and received a heartfelt welcome from the ponies. Tiny was particularly pleased to see her and was affectionately licking her hand and nuzzling her neck (pictured below). It was a touching reunion beautiful to see that they still remembered her a year on.
